A little over one year ago Forests Forever issued an action alert that began: "(T)he 'Magna Carta' of American environmental-protection laws... is now under the gravest threat it has faced since it was signed into law over 50 years ago."

Last year the Trump administration took steps to gut NEPA, delivering a final blow just two weeks after the election. On Nov. 18 the U.S. Forest Service released a final rule establishing six new "Categorical Exclusions" that would undercut NEPA's core strengths in bringing science, transparency and public input to decisions made on 193 million acres of National Forest system lands.
