SAMPLE LETTER
(Please feel free to rewrite in your own words.)
Dear Assemblymember:
I am writing to urge you to support AB 715, Assemblymember Lloyd
Levine’s bill that would give the California legislature the
power to review any decisions made by the governor affecting California’s
inventoried roadless areas.
The Forest Service’s recent scrapping of the protective Roadless
Area Conservation Rule leaves the roadless forests of California
open to roadbuilding, logging, oil and gas drilling, mining, and
other development.
Our roadless forests provide clean drinking water, fire protection,
hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. And perhaps most important,
unroaded forests preserve something precious, a wildness that cannot
be bought at any price. Once wilderness is gone, it is gone for
good.
These wild forests belong to all Americans, and decision-making
power over them should not rest in the hands of the governor alone.
When the roadless rule was under attack in recent months, Gov. Schwarzenegger
failed to speak out in favor of protecting roadless forests, turning
a deaf ear to more than 187,695 Californians who had written to
support the rule. He now needs to be held to his promise to keep
roadless areas roadless.
AB 715 would allow legitimate review of important decisions that
affect everyone in the state.
Please lend your support to AB 715.
Respectfully,
